Palomar in Science Fiction - Super Friends Edition

When Superman needs a big mirror to save the day, where would he go? Click on the movie below to find out in this clip from the Super Friends.

OK, this one is a bit of a stretch as the Super Friends are very much fantasy an not so much science fiction, but I just had to post this. They pretty much got everything wrong about Palomar except for the fact that we have a mirror 200-inches across. But, hey, it's just a cartoon, right?

You might recognize the voice of the narrator. That's Ted Knight, which to me was better known as news anchor Ted Baxter from the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Palomar Observatory was featured in a filmed version of Superman too. More on that later.

And hey, if Superman needed the Hale telescope mirror, you'd let him borrow it, right?

He put it back anyway.

It is hard to say "no" to Superman. I just hope that if he has to bend steel to get the mirror out, that he will bend it back again.

Hey, that's great. How did you find out about the episode?

Superman has tremendous powers and so does Google.

Of COURSE Superman would bend the telescope steel back! He's the Man of Steel, remember. Plus he's a good guy.

Now Lex Luthor, on the other hand - he'd just take the whole observatory and never give it back!

But he might need someone to keep the Palomar blog going, so at least your job would be safe, but I wouldn't want Luthor as my boss.

I'll never blog for Luthor. Never.

By the way, there is another Superman entry coming to the blog as soon as I can find the time to get it ready.
